中川 郁英 / Ikue NAKAGAWA

Born in Japan. I studied at Osaka University of Arts. I continued my training
at the Centre de Développement Chorégraphique Toulouse/Midi-Pyrénées.
As a dancer, I worked with choreographers Frank Micheletti (Koko Doko,
Mondes Monde, Coupures, Archipelago, Tiger Tiger Burning Bright) and
Eun Yong Lee and, as an actress, with theater director Pascal Rambert (To
Lose, Toute la vie, Avant que tu reviens, Libido Sciendi). I also work in
collaboration with Jean-Frédéric Chevalier, Lorenzo De Angelis, Brune
Campos.
At the same time, I have always had a certain practice of drawing. In 2018 I
began personal work. I created NAKAMI in 2021. TAMANEGI 2022, KUROKO
2025.
Each of my projects has its origins in my work with drawing. I use drawing as a way
of looking at myself and talking to myself on a daily basis. I draw what I feel in daily
life as a mother, wife, woman and individual. Since NAKAMI, drawing has been my
preferred medium of expression for accessing her inner worlds and initiating
creation: at once a medium for creation, a script, a score or a portfolio, it helps me to
cut through the layers of the mille-feuilles of which I composed, and to free myself
from the limits of the represented or danced body. Each series of drawings I
produces then gives rise to a set design that I creates to introduce the body and
create a piece.
Since 2024 I have been supported by Grand Studio.
